Legacy Health supports childhood nutrition
LifeWorks NW extends our heartfelt gratitude to Legacy Health for their two-year grant benefiting nutrition services at our three Children’s Relief Nurseries. These funds will help cover the costs of purchasing and preparing the two meals per day served in our therapeutic classrooms and will extend nutrition services into the children’s homes in two important ways:
- The first year of the grant provided funds to expand the Children's Relief Nursery Cookbook of Family Recipes by printing and binding copies for families to use in their homes, in English and Spanish.
- In the second year, the grant will fund Family Night cooking demonstrations, where Relief Nursery staff will prepare a selection of recipes from the cookbook and families will go home with the groceries they need to prepare the meals themselves.
Parents and caregivers are excited to help their families learn to love nutritious foods that many children might avoid and to build on positive eating habits that are reinforced in our classrooms.
“We are currently in a big broccoli craze,” says Leslie Brown, Program Director of the St. Johns Relief Nursery. “Both the Butterfly and Elephant classes are asking for ‘more little trees, please’. It is so fun!”
We are so grateful to Legacy Health for their support of the children and families of our community.
