Jen’s mindfulness sessions welcome new staff to LifeWorks NW.

“I hope it expresses the message that their wellness is really important to us from day one,” Jen Rothrock-Dickinson on her onboarding mindfulness minutes.

Meet Jen Rothrock-Dickinson, Human Resources Recruiting Specialist, LifeWorks NW advocate, and mindfulness maven. She joined LifeWorks NW more than four years ago. Jen is often the friendly first point of contact for new staff members, starting with the job postings.

She came to LifeWorks NW at the suggestion of a staff member she knew.

“I looked at the mission and the values knowing that it was a commute for me from Salem,” says Jen. “I really appreciated the work that LifeWorks NW was doing.”

Jen now often highlights that work as the public face of LifeWorks NW, representing the organization at job fairs and other community events.

“We’re here to support folks across the lifespan,” she tells job candidates.

Mindfulness moment

Jen is also an important part of the warm welcome staff receive once they join the agency. She leads a short meditation at orientation. She started offering the practice at the request of Nancy Kramer, Human Resources Generalist & Employee Engagement.

“Nancy asked me if I would like to, if I would be willing to offer a mindful moment,” Jen says. “And I keep doing it.”

“This gives our new hires a moment to pause, taking a few deep breaths, connecting with their body, allowing a sense of calm as they prepare for a full day,” Jen says. “We understand 'first days' can bring forward all types of feelings - anxiousness, nervousness, excitement - and we hope it expresses the message that their wellness is really important to us from day one.”

Jen also led “Meditation 4 Wellness” for close to a year, offering employees a 15–20-minute (virtual) weekly, guided meditation to ground and re-center in the middle of their workday.

Service to spirituality

Outside of LifeWorks NW, Jen is often in service to her spiritual community. As a minister of a metaphysical/spiritual center, she stays busy sharing messages and supporting members.

Our center encompasses a wide range of beliefs and practices that all support the individual growth of the members,” she says. “It is about helping them master every day.”  Jen also serves on the board, facilitates several groups, and teaches classes.

“It is truly my second home,” says Jen.

Jen also has a private wellness practice offering energy healing sessions (Reiki), grief processing, spiritual mentoring, and sound therapy.

Service to self (care)

Jen makes time every day for yoga, prayer, and meditation.

“It is really is essential to my own wellbeing,” she says.

Weekend trips are also part of her routine; Mount Shasta and Ashland are two of her favorite destinations.

“Summer is my favorite season, and I make sure to carve out time to be next to the water,” she says. “The river is also a favorite.”

With the busyness of her life, she makes her family a priority.  “My partner, Jerry, and I love hosting family gatherings,” she says. A well-structured organization system helps Jen keep her busy life in order. She finds it helps her make the most of her days.

“Time will expand to meet my needs,” she says.
