Meet Laurel Bosma, Mental Health Therapist, gardener, and watercolor enthusiast
Laurel Bosma, Mental Health Therapist, is part of the Adult Outpatient team at our Rockwood site. She shares her thoughts on why and how she joined the LifeWorks NW team and a little about her life outside of work.
How do you describe what you do?
My goal is to help people find the answers that are already within them, feel hopeful that they can recover from their mental health and other struggles, and that their lives can get better.
How did you come to LifeWorks NW?
I came to Lifeworks NW after teaching lots of different classes in a mental health rehabilitation program. I have a social work background, am new to being a therapist, and wanted to try something different.
Why did you choose LifeWorks NW?
I chose LifeWorks NW because I like how it is open to everyone.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I feel very honored when people open up about what they have been going through, and how they would like things to be. Sometimes people might need to understand themselves a little better, and when that happens, it's like a lightbulb suddenly turns on above their heads! It makes me so happy when people start to see how great they are the way I do
I like this quote: "When you are lonely and in darkness, I wish that you could see the astonishing light of your own being." - Hafiz
What do you do when you are not working?
When I am not at work I like to spend time with my family, garden, hike, listen to music, dance, keep up with current events, and do watercolor painting.
