Meet Brenda Kinoshita, Individual Giving Officer, gardener, and kitchen adventurer. With experience working in development and fundraising at several local nonprofits, Brenda joined the LifeWorks NW team last fall.
It’s about the people
Before joining LifeWorks NW, Brenda Kinoshita was already aware of the organization's impact. Through her previous nonprofit work in domestic and sexual violence, she knew of the lifeline it served for people in the community accessing services. However, what inspired her most about joining Lifeworks NW was the people.
"When, during the employment interviews, there was so much laughter, I knew I had found the right role, the right team, and the right place to work," says Brenda.
In fact, for Brenda, it's always been about the people. "Getting to know my amazing coworkers and donors, appreciating that both groups ensure that our lifesaving programs and services are provided, that’s what’s most rewarding," she adds. "Everyone here has been so helpful and friendly."
Building connection
Much of LifeWorks NW revenue comes from fee-for-service and government grants, but for many reasons, those funds can’t pay for everything needed to keep the doors open for the over a dozen clinics and sites.
"I build relationships with people who have an interest in or a connection to our mission and who want to support the work of LifeWorks NW," Brenda says.
Brenda’s efforts, along with the entire Development team, help contribute to the sustainability of LifeWorks NW by forging connections in the community and bringing in the needed resources that make it possible for LifeWorks NW to continue to serve future generations.
"Much of the funds we raise aren’t restricted to a specific program," she says. "They can be used toward broader program enhancements, special projects, and filling other needs as they arise to help enhance the experience of our clients and make this a great place to work."
Finding joy in and outside of work
When Brenda isn’t working, she loves to hang out with her sweet dog, Maple, who occasionally yodels, though never on demand. She also enjoys gardening and growing lots of native plants that bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds adore.
But her truest joy? Experimenting in her kitchen. "Not everything comes out as expected, but I learn so much every time," shares Brenda.
