‘I have big dreams’: Something to Talk About 2026

Mary Monnat speaks at the podium at LifeWorks NW's annual Something to Talk About fundraising breakfast.

Many thanks to all the supporters from across the region who gathered last week at LifeWorks NW's annual fundraising breakfast, Something to Talk About, to hear powerful stories of recovery and resilience and to champion the organization's work. This year marked the 24th year of the event.

"Something to Talk About provides us the opportunity to showcase our mission directly through the voices of those we serve, helping our community better understand the work we do," says Karen Warr, Director of Development. "The stories shared at the breakfast were so moving, and we are grateful to all our guests who came to learn more about our services and felt inspired to support our organization."

Stories of hope, recovery, and resilience

Tamy Linver, Board Chair, opened the event, followed by a speech from Mary Monnat, CEO and President. Mary described the wave of changes on the horizon for mental health and addiction services across the country and the importance of doing all we can as a community to rise to meet the moment.

Following her words, guests heard from clients who chose to share their stories. First, a video featured client experiences that highlighted a variety of sites and programs, including the Children’s Relief Nursery, Mountaindale Recovery Center, Hawthorn Walk-In Center, and Enhanced Adult Mental Health Services.

Lastly, a Project Network graduate shared the impact of that program on her life in a moving speech before the crowd, who responded with a standing ovation.

I stayed for the entire six months and graduated. It was the best six months of my life so far. I love Project Network because I knew recovery was my life now.  It was helping me.  I totally changed my mindset... I have big dreams, yes, and right now I’m working on making them a reality.

In all the clients’ stories featured at the event, a common theme emerged: what happens at LifeWorks NW is lifesaving and lifechanging. LifeWorks NW Board Vice Chair Sean Jessup stepped in to reiterate that our community needs support now more than ever, and many in the room felt compelled to give directly to the organization in the moment. Others have been sending their support in the days since. No matter how support arrives, it all brings LifeWorks NW closer to our goal of raising $175,000 to continue to provide these critical services.
