Spring Giving

Your support today gives thousands a
fresh start.

Marta* experienced severe emotional and physical abuse as a child – abuse which continued into adulthood with her husband. The couple had two children and immigrated to the United States from Eastern Europe before divorcing after 19 years together. Marta had long struggled with her mental health, diagnosed with bipolar disorder, depression, PTSD, and anxiety. She was usually diligent about taking her medications and keeping up with her mental health care. As her children became adults, her son was her rock, staying by her side through her mental health challenges, including a stay in the psychiatric unit.

In 2009, her son was tragically killed, and her world collapsed. She found solace in her work as a postpartum nursing assistant but lost her job when a work situation brought back the trauma of her loss, leaving her unable to get to work on time. Marta suddenly found herself alone, with no way to pay for groceries or rent, and her mental health was in jeopardy. “I just knew I wanted to feel better, and that by myself, I could barely do that,” she says. “So I called 211, and they recommended me to LifeWorks NW.”

“[LifeWorks NW] really changed my life, completely." - Marta
