When faced with the reality of returning to parenthood as they neared retirement, Julia and Aiden's grandparents were overwhelmed. Their daughter’s drug use left her unable to care for her kids, and they immediately took custody of the young children. They struggled to find their footing in an unexpected situation, grappling with Julia’s developmental delays due to her mother’s drug use and trying their best to navigate Aiden’s severe learning disability. 

They needed support, and that’s when they received a referral to the Children’s Relief Nursery.  

  • Julia joined the therapeutic classroom, where she gained social skills and grew friendships.  
  • Respite care allowed her grandparents to take time to tend to their own appointments and needs.  
  • As a family, they gained skills through home visits, parenting classes, and community events.  

Research shows that there is a $2-$4 return on investment for every dollar spent on Relief Nursery prevention programs.

Now through December 31, a generous grant from the Ed Cauduro Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation will double your impact by matching every donation made to the Children’s Relief Nurseries, up to a total match of $10,000.

Students age 6-17 with mental health or behavioral concerns are 3x more likely to repeat a grade (NAMI by the Numbers 2025). Early intervention and support can change the trajectory of an entire life.
