Ruth's Story
This was John’s urgent and heartfelt plea, as he brought his mother, Ruth, to be assessed by our older adult services.
Ruth’s is a familiar story. She is one of 68,000 older adults in Oregon suffering from the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease. John is one of 240,000 adult caregivers who must look for ways to improve the quality of life for a loved one. Luckily, they came to the right place. Ruth was able to enroll in our day services program, where our staff worked with her to identify important memories and plan activities to keep them as sharp as possible. She was able to participate in music lessons, craft projects, and a host of other activities, as well as develop new relationships with the other participants in the program.
Ruth was also able to access therapy to overcome her depression, and John worked with our staff to deal with his anger and fear. While Alzheimer’s disease robs families of happy endings, the staff at LifeWorks NW works tirelessly to make the journey a little more bearable, and provides ongoing support for the whole family.
