Master's Level Student Practicum

In order to build bicultural and bilingual professional staff, LifeWorks NW initiated a program to recruit Latino and African American Master's level students and Latino students working in the field of addictions. In 2010, we are offering three paid student practicums.

Master's Level Student Practicum

Three paid student practicums are available through LifeWorks NW. Two student practicums will be established for the training of bilingual (English/Spanish) Latino students and one for Masters level African American students. Each will be supported by an approximate $6,830 stipend while completing their 2010-2011 practicum here at LifeWorks NW. The practicums will be 16-20 hrs/wk and the stipend will be paid on an hourly basis of $8.76 per hour.

Mental Health Practicum - Two paid practicums will be for students pursuing work in a mental health field. To qualify, these applicants must be pursuing a Master's degree in psychology, social work or counseling at a nationally accredited college or university as a fulltime student. They must be Latino and bilingual (English/Spanish) or African American, be legal to work in the United States and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

Chemical Dependency Practicum - One paid practicum will be for students pursing a career working in addictions. To qualify, these applicants must be pursuing a degree in alcohol and drug, psychology, social work or counseling at a nationally accredited college or university with the intent to pursue an addictions counselor certification. They must be Latino and bilingual (English/Spanish), be legal to work in the United States and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

LifeWorks NW will be retaining a bilingual and/or bicultural supervisor who is able to provide appropriate clinical supervision to the practicum student if needed.

Students who wish to be considered for this practicum should submit a letter of interest and resume, and complete the attached application. These should be sent to: LifeWorks NW, 14600 NW Cornell, Portland, OR 97229, Attn: Human Resources.

The period for submitting applications ends August 1, 2010. Applicants are encouraged to submit applications as early as possible. Program managers may interview and offer qualified applicants an unpaid internship before the stipend recipients are selected. The offer of an unpaid internship in no way indicates the applicant will be selected for a stipend. The stipends will be awarded after August 1, 2010. All applicants will be notified at that time.
